Plans and limits
These plans govern the Lumin connector: reading through Claude, or calling the MCP server with an API key. There are two of them, every one of the 218 tools is on both, and everyone starts free with 300 tool calls a month. A complete reading uses 25 to 40 calls, so the free allowance covers roughly 7 to 12 complete readings a month.
Reading in the Lumin app instead?
The app at app.lumin.guru does not use this meter at all. Readings there run on your own Anthropic API key, Anthropic bills you directly, and Lumin sets no allowance, no daily message limit and no cost cap. See Your Anthropic key. Everything below is about the connector.

How to read these numbers
A complete KP reading using the seven-phase protocol uses 25 to 40 tool calls. A quick chart pull uses 1 to 5. A casual conversation with follow-up questions sits between, around 10 to 15 calls per question. In readings, the free plan works out to roughly 7 to 12 complete readings a month, or a couple of readings a week with follow-ups to spare.
No tool is gated behind payment. The plans differ only in how many calls you have, never in what you can ask.
How the meter works
The meter is monthly and counts only tool calls that actually run. A failed call, whether a validation error, an auth problem, or a server fault, does not count. Setup traffic like connecting and listing tools is never counted either.
The allowance refreshes on the 1st of each month, UTC. It is metered per account: your signed-in account when you connect through Claude, and one shared allowance across all your API keys when you use those. There is no daily cap, so you can run a whole month of readings in one weekend if you like. Conversations in the Lumin app are never counted against it, because they never touch this server.
Pay as you go
When you need more than the free allowance, you top up. Any amount works, starting at 1 USD for 400 calls, and larger top-ups carry a better rate. There is no subscription, the calls never expire, and one call is one call, no weighted credits.
More calls simply means more readings, and deeper ones. A quick lookup is a handful of calls; a full reading across every phase is 25 to 40.

Research access
Academic and undergraduate research runs free. The 300 call limit exists to keep casual use honest, not to price out a study, so we set an allowance to match the work instead. Most studies need a few thousand calls a month.
