Tutorial / 5 minutes

Your first reading

By the end of this page you will have Lumin running, a saved birth profile, and a worked reading on a real life question. No downloads and no code, just an email address and a six digit code.

Before you start: two ways to read

There are two doors into Lumin, and they need different things from you. Pick one before you go further.

  • The Lumin app at app.lumin.guru. Sign in with your email address, then add your own Anthropic API key on the profile page. Readings run on that key, Anthropic bills you directly for what you use, and Lumin sets no limit on how much you ask. A new account cannot read until the key is saved, so do this first. See Your Anthropic key for the two minute walk-through.
  • The Lumin connector inside Claude. Add one URL to Claude and read there. No Anthropic key of your own is involved. This route runs on Lumin's free allowance of 300 tool calls a month, topped up with prepaid call packs if you need more. That is the path the rest of this page walks.

Step 1 - Connect Lumin to Claude

Open Claude, then add Lumin as a custom connector. Paste this URL:

https://mcp.lumin.guru/mcp

Claude will register the 221 tools Lumin exposes (pure KP, Vedic Parashari, Jaimini, and Tajik adjuncts), 8 of which are composite workflows that bundle 5-15 sub-calls into single atomic recipes (marriage, career, kundli match, year outlook, today, triple-dasha consensus, Karakamsa spiritual lens, pre-verdict audit). You will see them listed under your tools panel once the connection is established.

Connecting asks you to sign in to Lumin. Enter your email address, then the six digit code we send you. There is no password. Connector readings run on Lumin's free allowance of 300 tool calls a month, plenty to finish this tutorial and run several complete readings. No Anthropic key of your own is needed on this route.

For best results pick Claude Opus 4.7 with adaptive thinking turned on. For lighter follow-up questions, Claude Sonnet with adaptive thinking is a faster default. See recommended model settings for why.

Step 2 - Set your birth profile

Tell Lumin who the reading is for. It holds this in context for the whole conversation, so you only set it once. In the Lumin app you fill the same details into a birth profile form instead of typing them.

Set my birth profile:
- Born: 1992-08-14 at 04:32 (IST)
- Place: Colombo, Sri Lanka (6.927N, 79.861E)

If you do not know your exact birth time, ask for birth time rectification later. Lumin can narrow it from known life events.

Step 3 - Ask a real question

Lumin works best with a clear, specific question. Tap any of these to copy it.

You will see Lumin run a long sequence of tool calls, usually 25 to 40 for a life-area question. That is the seven-phase KP reading protocol working through chart, promise, dasha, transits, ruling planets, advanced techniques, and synthesis. The floors are enforced, so a question about marriage, career, health, money, or the timing of an event never gets answered in one or two calls.

Step 4 - Read the answer

Every answer Lumin gives carries the math: the cuspal sublord, the active dasha lords, the ruling planets, the transit hierarchy. It also carries the rule each claim rests on and where that rule comes from, so you can check a reading the way a practitioner would check another practitioner, rather than taking it on faith.

Stuck?

If Claude is not picking up the tools, double-check the URL and that your Claude tier supports custom connectors. The Connect page on lumin.guru has a click-by-click walk-through with screenshots.
