FAQ
The questions Lumin gets most often, with straight answers.
Do I need my own API key?
In the Lumin app, yes. Readings there run on your own Anthropic API key, which you add once on your profile page. Reading through the Lumin connector inside Claude is different: it uses Lumin's free monthly allowance of tool calls and needs no key of your own. Accounts that existed before the app moved to your own key kept working, so if you were already reading, nothing has stopped.
Is there a message limit?
Not in the app. There is no daily message allowance, no monthly cost cap and no per-conversation limit, because your readings run on your own key. A suspended or deactivated account cannot chat, and a few seconds separate one message from the next to stop automated flooding, but neither of those is a usage quota. The connector is metered separately, at 300 tool calls a month on the free plan.
What does it cost?
Lumin does not charge you for app readings. Anthropic bills your account directly for the tokens you use, and you can watch the spend, or set a ceiling, in the Anthropic Console. For the connector, the free allowance costs nothing and top-ups start at $1 for 400 calls.
How accurate is Lumin?
Lumin uses VSOP87 for the planets and ELP2000 for the Moon. Both are checked against observed sky events, the Placidus cusps against their own defining equation, and the KP tables against the printed books. The figures, and what is still open, are on the benchmarks page. The weakest link is usually birth time precision, not the math.
Does it work without my exact birth time?
Yes, but with caveats. Without an exact time the cuspal sublord is uncertain, and several KP techniques depend on it. Use the birth time rectification tool with a few known life events to narrow it.
Why are some readings "mixed" instead of yes or no?
KP recognizes that real life is sequential. If your chart signifies both supporting and detrimental houses for an event, the verdict is MIXED ACTIVE. You will see both, in some order. Lumin spells out which comes first based on the active dasha lords.
Will Lumin replace a human astrologer?
Lumin is a strong second opinion and a faster first pass. For complex questions, especially those involving relationships, working with a human astrologer who knows your circumstances is still valuable. But the math layer is no longer the bottleneck.
My reading feels off, what do I do?
Check the birth data first (date format, timezone, latitude/longitude). If those are right, run birth time rectification against two or three known life events. That fixes most "feels wrong" readings.
