Your Anthropic key

Readings in the Lumin app run on your own Anthropic API key. You add it once on your profile page, Anthropic bills you directly for what you use, and Lumin puts no cap on how much you ask.

Why you bring your own key

A thorough KP reading is 20 to 40 tool calls of real reasoning, so a shared pool of model capacity has to be rationed to survive, and rationing is what produces daily message allowances and monthly cost caps. Running each account on its own key removes the shared pool, and with it the reason those limits existed. You read as much as you want, and you pay Anthropic for exactly what you used.

Add your key

  1. Create a key in the Anthropic Console. Keys start with sk-ant-.
  2. Sign in at app.lumin.guru with your email address and the six digit code we send you.
  3. Open the profile page, find the Anthropic API key card, paste the key, and save.

Saving checks the key against Anthropic before it is stored, so a mistyped or revoked key is rejected at the input box rather than failing later in the middle of a reading. Once the key is saved you can ask your first question straight away.

How your key is stored

  • It is encrypted before it reaches the database, never written in plain text.
  • It is never sent back to your browser. After you save it, the only thing the app can show you is the last four characters, enough to tell two keys apart.
  • It is used for your own readings and nothing else.
  • You can replace it with a different key, or remove it entirely, from the same card at any time.

Because the key is never displayed again, keep your own copy if you need it elsewhere. If you lose it, revoke it in the Anthropic Console and add a fresh one.

What it costs

Lumin does not charge you for chat and does not take a cut. Anthropic bills your account directly for the tokens your readings consume, at their published rates, and you can watch the spend in the Anthropic Console alongside any other usage on the same key. Set a spend limit there if you want a ceiling.

What Lumin no longer limits

There is no daily message allowance, no monthly cost cap, no per-conversation cost limit, and no shared platform budget behind chat. Ask as many questions as you like, in as many conversations as you like.

What is still enforced

  • Account standing. A suspended or deactivated account cannot chat. That is moderation, not billing.
  • A short pause between messages. A few seconds separate one message from the next, which stops automated flooding and is invisible in normal use.

Accounts without a key

A new account needs its own key before it can read, unless an administrator has granted it access to the platform key. Accounts that existed before this change were granted that access, so if you were already reading with Lumin nothing has stopped working. Adding your own key still gives you the cleanest arrangement, since your usage then sits entirely under your own Anthropic account.

This page is about the app

The Lumin connector inside Claude is a different route with a different meter: it runs on Lumin's free monthly tool call allowance and on prepaid call packs, and it does not use your Anthropic key. See Plans and limits for that side.
